The Australian fielding, with the exception of Damien Martyn, who
muffed an easy chance at first slip, was exemplary. Andrew
Symonds, in particular, stood out. First, the athletic
Queenslander ran in from square leg and got in a full-length
frontal dive to snap up Mohammad Kaif's miscued pull shot off
Gillespie. Then, at short extra cover, he threw himself to his
right to pluck out of mid-air Dinesh Mongia's uppish drive,
almost losing it before clutching on for dear life.
