Did you know who scored the first ODI century against the Kenyans? (01 October 2001)
The deed was done in Kenya's first ever one-dayer at Cuttack, India. The 1996 World Cup match played on February 18 saw the debutant team pitted against the Indians.
Mohammad Azharuddin, the home team captain won the toss, and put the Kenyans in. They put on 199 on the board thanks to a 65 from their best batsman Steve Tikolo. India in reply got off to a rollicking start. Tendulkar and Ajay Jadeja put on 163 for the first wicket before Jadeja was out. Tendulkar though kept on going, pounding the Kenyan bowlers to all parts of the ground on his way to an unbeaten 127 with fifteen fours and a six. It was Tendulkar's fifth hundred and the first century by a batsman against Kenya.
Four years on, in the 1999 World Cup in England, Kenya were at the receiving end of another Sachin Tendulkar onslaught. The little master had just lost his father and was returning after the last rites. India needed to win their last three league matches to make it to the superleague and there was no way Tendulkar was staying back in Mumbai. He flew down to Bristol and promptly made 140 off 101 balls batting at No.4. Dravid made 101, India 329 and Kenya were at the receiving end yet again. Tendulkar, in fact, has made 410 runs in five matches against the Kenyans with three hundreds at an average of 205!
