Who has played the most ODIs in a row? (25 June 2001)

The record for the most consecutive Test appearances belongs to Allan Border. From 1979 to 1994, Border played 153 times without a break for Australia. In the shorter version of the game, Andy Flower came close to setting the benchmark for an uninterrupted record of service. When he was forced to sit out of the Coca-Cola Cup because of a dislocated thumb, Flower's proud accomplishment of having played in every Test and ODI for Zimbabwe since his debut nine years ago came to grief. Prior to the tri-series, the 33-year-old had played 172 ODIs in a row beginning with a World Cup clash against Sri Lanka in New Plymouth on February 23, 1992.

The ODI record for most matches played in succession thus contnues to stand in the name of Sachin Tendulkar. After making his debut against Pakistan in Gujranwala in 1989/90, Tendulkar was in and out of the side for a brief period. He was omitted for two matches in Pakistan and two more on the subsequent tour in New Zealand. But starting from the Australasia Cup in Sharjah in April 1990, Tendulkar played 185 straight games until he missed the first two contests of the Coca-Cola Cup triangular involving India, Bangladesh and Kenya in May 1998. Tendulkar also has played 84 Tests without a break since his debut, so it is not inconceivable that he would one day hold the endurance record in both forms of the game.
