Luxembourg profile2004 Wisden Almanack reviewAn excellent summer allowed Luxembourg to enjoy an ever-increasing amount of cricket at all levels. Unfortunately, one of the few games to fall victim to the weather was the first of two home games against France, the visitors winning the second match. The other international played in Luxembourg in 2003, against Belgium, also ended in defeat. Star CC won both the indoor and outdoor LCF-CrossComm leagues in 2003. The search continues for a second ground to relieve the pressure on the Pierre Werner ground, which was in use almost every day between mid-April and early October. The season’s highlight was the national team’s debut at the 2003 ECC Trophy in Vienna, our first outing at an official international tournament. Luxembourg lost all six games, but perhaps provided the romance of the tournament. The squad ranged in age from 16-year-old Martin Thomas to 67-year-old Lancashire-born wicket-keeper Keith Glover, who completed three stumpings against Switzerland. Previously his greatest feat was obtaining David Gower’s autograph. Bryan Rouse |
