Old Tauntonians and Romsey Cricket Club - Formed 1998
Old Tauntonians and Romsey CC Review 2002 (written by Stuart Tulk)
You would expect a top three finish from a club which boasted the leading divisional run maker,
the leading wicket-taker, the most successful wicketkeeper and top catcher, and an all-rounder
who scored in excess of 400 runs and took 25 wickets.
But it was not to be. A mid-table finish was somewhat disappointing. Charles Forward (645 runs)
and Nick Wood (38 wickets) won the respective SPL2 batting and bowling awards, while Max Smith,
a major asset, underlined his all-round skills with 481 runs and a 26-wicket haul. Jeremy Ord's
19 wickets (ec/rate 2.77 rpo) showed why he is amongst the best new-ball bowlers about.
The major reason for our poorish season was the lack of an overseas player, especially as the
majority of games we lost were as a result of a major contribution from our opponents' overseas
player. This season looks a lot brighter, with a major financial contribution being received
from a mystery benefactor. It is hoped this will allow us to attract new players to the club.
