Waterlooville Cricket Club - Formed 1915
Waterlooville CC Review 2001 (written by Paul Russell)
As the news filtered through that we had managed to survive in SPL3, the Leigh Park District
Corps of Pipes and Drums started to play that all too notorious tune of "The Great Escape" (bit
like early May scenes at Fratton Park).
It was an end to a season where we had started with tough fixtures, subsequently failed to
capitalise on some very favourable match situations and struggled to perform as a team. Our only
notable contribution with the bat came from Australian all-rounder Chris Baumann (423 runs) and
with the ball, the usual suspects Martin Shephard (25 wickets) and the ever-youthful Stan Rudder
(now in his 68th year) who says he prefers to bowl his 12 overs straight through without having
to come back just before tea. (Ask Stan why ?).
As much as it was tough, the season served a purpose. Hopefully in 2002, we will come back
stronger, more focused and motivated and able to put some much needed consistency into our game.
