CRICINFO SIGNS WITH TRADINGSPORTS TO ENTER THE GLOBAL P2P BETTING MARKETPLACE 27 May 2002
From 30th May 2002, CricInfo, the world’s largest single sport website will enable its users to place person-to-person, in-running bets on all major cricket games in the 2002-2003 cricket seasons, thanks to an exclusive deal with TradingSports, the leading ‘white label’ person-to-person betting exchange. Having previously run successful live tests on the site, TradingSports is to become CricInfo’s official P2P betting partner, and will provide the technology to enable CricInfo users to place in-running bets on all major Test and One-Day International matches over the course of the coming 2002 and 2003 seasons, including the current England-Sri Lanka Test Series and the eagerly awaited England-India Series later in the summer. The Cricket Exchange will not only provide betting on all major cricket events, but on a host of other sporting tournaments, including all games in this year’s FIFA World Cup Finals. "With more than fifteen million users in 180 countries worldwide, CricInfo will be an invaluable addition to the TradingSports global exchange, with the potential to add a significant level of liquidity to the system," said Joe Tighe, TradingSports’ CEO. "The live tests run on the site earlier this year demonstrated that the TradingSports system lends itself well to both Test Match and One-Day cricket. It also proved that there is a significant demand for P2P betting within the online cricket marketplace," he added. CricInfo’s partnership with TradingSports presents the website with an opportunity to gain a foothold in the rapidly growing P2P market without the need to develop its own technology infrastructure. The TradingSports ‘white label’ proposition will enable CricInfo to benefit from all the advantages of the highly scaleable TradingSports back engine technology whilst customising the user interface to reflect its own brand offering. The system will also enable CricInfo to maintain exclusive relationships with its customer base. Alex Chamberlen, Director of Sales at CricInfo, commented: "TradingSports has developed an exciting platform that many of our users will enjoy. For many it will be their first experience of the growing P2P market, and the game itself is suited to experts and beginners alike. We are confident that the Cricket Exchange will become a significant revenue stream for us. The game will also be a welcome complement to our existing betting and gaming partners." The deal between TradingSports and CricInfo was brokered in conjunction with TradingSports’ marketing and commercial partners, WSM, the London-based specialist brand-building consultancy. TradingSports has also recently signed high profile exchange partner deals with WWTS, the leading online bookmaker, and TradIndex, the financial spread-betting site backed by Tradition.
