Phil Tufnell to be CricInfo's Tipster columnist
"Tufnell's Tips" a first for cricket fans
27 Feb 2002

Middlesex and England spinner Phil Tufnell has launched a new column on CricInfo.com, the world's most popular cricket website. Tufnell's Tips will run fortnightly, and will be a fun tipster guide to forthcoming cricket. The column, which forms part of an advertising and online marketing deal with Paragon Sports Management, will promote CricInfo's partnership with bet365.

In his first column, Tufnell says "Apparently I look like the kind of bloke who fancies a flutter. Really don't understand it myself, but you can't argue with the public." He however advises caution in respect to his advice. "Not that I've ever won any big money of course, so I'd take my tips with a big pinch of salt if I were you!"

Tufnell is sensitive to cricket's betting scandals and says, "Having a bet is really all about having a bit of fun. It's not about match fixing, not about chucking games and certainly not about leather jackets!" He goes on to praise the work of Sir Paul Condon's Anti-Corruption Unit "It's great to see Sir Paul Condon's Anti-Corruption Unit is so confident of a clean World Cup next year - the ICC has really made strides in this area - I'm all for stamping out any dirty dealings once and for all."

CricInfo's Director of Sales Alex Chamberlen said "It is a pleasure to be working with Phil again. I know he fancies himself as a bit of a tipster, so this will be his chance to give CricInfo's audience the benefit of his hunches. The columns are mainly for the amateur punter, but given Phil's inimitable style, they will be a good read even if you don't want a bet."

Tufnell will also be contributing a regular diary column to CricInfo. Tufnell's Turn was a popular feature during the 2001 Ashes series, and returns at the start of England's Test series in New Zealand.

Mike Martin of Paragon Sports Management said "Phil always claims he is one of the keenest students of the game, he certainly talks a good game, now let's see how much he really does know. Paragon Sports Management is delighted to continue our relationship with CricInfo through the involvement of one of our key cricket clients."
