CRICINFO PASSES 1,500,000,000 IN 2001 massive traffic for world's biggest cricket site 20 Dec 2001
CricInfo.com, the world's most popular sports web site, yesterday passed one and a half billion page views in 2001. This is the first time that the site has passed this landmark in a calendar year, and reflects strong performance in all major markets. CricInfo raced to this landmark late yesterday as England attempted to square the series with India at Bangalore. The site passed a total of 3 billion page views in its history earlier this autumn. "This is another fantastic landmark for the site and reflects the fact that our audience is growing constantly." said Peter Griffiths, CricInfo's Managing Director. "We have seen that Test cricket is the preferred form of the game for our users, and the excitement of recent series like Australia v New Zealand and India v England has boosted an already massive audience still further." "We have always scored heavily in terms of page views. What continues to be most encouraging is the way that our audience is receptive to new products and services, such as our ecommerce, mobile and subscription offerings. The growth we have seen this year shows how cricket fans are passionately interested in all levels of cricket on a global scale." CricInfo, which began in 1993, records between 100 million and 250 million page views per month, with the biggest percentage of users coming from the USA, the UK, Australia, and India.
