YORKSHIRE ARE CRICINFO CHAMPIONS... OF THE WEB New survey reveals that 2001 CricInfo Champions are most popular county on ecb.co.uk 12 Sep 2001
Yorkshire, crowned CricInfo County Champions today at Scarborough, have another title to add to their trophy cabinet: they are the CricInfo Champions of the Web. In an exclusive new survey conducted by CricInfo.com, it is revealed that live scores of Yorkshire's games are the most watched on ecb.co.uk, the official site powered by Championship sponsors CricInfo. As in the real CricInfo Championship, Yorkshire's lead was unassailable prior to the final match of the season. The white rose county have opened up a substantial lead over local rivals Lancashire in runners' up position, with Kent in third place. In the CricInfo Championship survey, the counties were ranked according to the number of page views generated by users watching live county scores on their PCs, whether at home or at work. CricInfo has more than doubled its county traffic this season, with the CricInfo Championship alone accounting for more than 30 million page views. The survey also highlights that Second Division counties also have a smaller online following than their First Division rivals. No CricInfo Second Division county challenges the least popular First Division County in terms of audience, the counties arranging themselves neatly into the same two divisions as in the CricInfo Championship. Hampshire, currently second in Division Two and pressing for the Second Division Championship, are the most followed county in their division. In another close reflection of reality, bottom county Derbyshire are also the least followed online. CricInfo's Head of Marketing Andrew Hall said "Yorkshire's victory has proved immensely popular with CricInfo and ecb.co.uk users. The immense number of page views generated by the CricInfo Championship this year proves what a successful sponsorship it has been, as well as providing evidence for what has been said anecdotally for some time - people are still extremely interested in the Championship. Spectators may not always pack the grounds, but on computer screens in offices and homes around the country, people are watching in their millions." CricInfo, which began in 1993, has recorded in excess of 1 billion page views this year, with a grand total approaching 3 billion. CricInfo hosts and manages the official England site www.ecb.co.uk which currently records around 70 million page views per month.
