Sriram's assault spells doom for Haryana
Tamil Nadu rose to unassailable position in Group C of the Super League with an innings and 40 run victory against Haryana at Gurgaon's Nehru Stadium, their second successive win in the group.
Having been asked to field, Tamil Nadu had Haryana reeling at 85 for 7. However an eight wicket stand of 102 featuring Pradeep Jain (57) and P Thakur (53) helped Haryana to recover before the innings folded up at 208. Then with the day nearing its end, Tamil Nadu openers Aashish Kapoor (55) and S Sriram (177) started to rub salt into Haryana's wounds with an unbeaten stand, scoring 43 runs off 10 overs.
Resuming on the second day, Sriram and Kapoor took their stand to 80 when Kapoor fell leg before to Pradeep Jain. Hemang Badani added a further 85 runs for the second wicket in Sriram's company before he was castled by Jain. This brought in JR Madanagopal to the crease.
Thereafter, Sriram in the company of Madanagopal ensured that Tamil Nadu took firm control of the match by the end the second day. The duo put on 166 runs for the third wicket in 46.1 overs. Madanagopal departed after a sedate 74 off 150 balls. Sriram then brought up his third century in the space of four matches in the Ranji Trophy.
Nearing the fag end of the day Sriram and Tanveer Jabbar fell in the space of three balls to Pradeep Jain. By then the damage had already been done and Tamil Nadu by stumps held the upper hand in the match thanks to Sridharan Sriram's century.
