Shortly after De Leede's and Scholte's dismissals, Muttiah Muralitharan took over. The world's finest off-spinner needed just five balls to claim his first wicket. After he had added a quick second scalp too, Murali however had to suffer the mortification of being hit for a four and a six by Edgar Schiferli in his second over. It was the proverbial flash in the pan as far as Schiferli was concerned. The champion bowler bounced back quickly to clean up the Netherlands innings, claiming the last two wickets, including that of Schiferli stumped by Sangakkara for 15.
