1996 World Cup Profile:Richie Richardson captains a West Indies side that recently has failed to live up to the always high expectations of their fans. As such, he has been the subject of much critisism, but has been faced with the almost impossible task of trying to fill the shoes previously filled by Viv Richards, and before him Clive Lloyd, with retirements leaving him a much changed team. His batting, too has declined under the pressures of captaincy, but he still has the potential to dominate an attack, and is a player of high class as shown by his test average in the mid forties. He brings enormous experience to a relatively young West Indies team.help@cricinfo.com |
