ABN - AMRO ICC Trophy News - Early Start to a friendly programme

Most of our overseas visitors have confirmed their travel ar-
rangements and arrival dates in Kenya, with many arriving early
in order to acclimatise themselves to local conditions.
A full programme of friendly matches has been scheduled to give
the teams a chance to 'play themselves in' at the testing alti-
tude of 5000 ft.
Organising comittee secretary, Robbie Armstrong provided the fol-
lowing details of the teams' arrival plans:

BANGLADESH - The first team to arrive on 22nd January - they
have been coached by Indian Test star Amarnath. Bangladesh
reached the semi-finals in the last tournament in Holland and are
obviously the team to watch.

ARGENTINA - Asked to open their tour in Kenya by playing against
Rift Valley Sports Club in Nakuru on February 5th and 6th.
Nakurur is approximately 150 kms from Nairobi.

BERMUDA - They arrivve on 2nd February and are always a team to
reckon with, having performed well in all the previous tourna-
ments. They will be accompanied by 20 to 30 supporters.

CANADA - Winners in 1979 arrive on 5th February and are featuring
in Group 'C' with Kenya.

DENMARK - Having toured Kenya previously in 1976, they are duw on
9th February and will provide stiff opposition.

EAST & CENTRAL AFRICA - They are no stranger to Kenyan conditions
and will be arriving from their training camp in Tanzania on 8th
February.

FIJI - The furthest country from hosts Kenya, will set foot in
Africa for the first time in cricket history on 6th Febraury.

1969 and who provide the Chairman Mr. J. Buzaglo, arrive on Tues-
day 8th February.

HOLLAND - Twice losing finalists will arrive on 1st Febraury.
Holland who have sent a representative to Kenya who spent four
days in Nairobi checking out the grounds, hospitals, hotels, are
taking the tournament very seriously. They are the top seed and
expect to do well. They will be cheered on by over 40 supporters.

HONG KONG - From the far east, Kenya welcomes Hong Kong on the
5th of February.

IRELAND - They are present for the first time in the ICC trophy
and have enlisted the services of David Houghton ex-captain of
Zimababwe with a vast experience of the Associate Members cricket
as as adviser. Ireland are an unknown quantity and some of the
top seeds, are looking forward to their participation with a lit-
tle apprehension. They are accompanied by 30 supporters.

ISRAEL - Israel will feel at home in the Fairview Hotel which is
a few yards from the Embassy of Israel, who we are sure will help
them feel most welcome.

MALAYSIA - Malaysia, who may be bidding to host the next tourna-
ment arrive on the 8th of February.

NAMIBIA - Newcomers to the ICC trophy, Namibia are an unknown
quantity and are playing in Group 'C' along with Kenya. They
will be travelling with some supporters and arrive on Sunday 6th
February.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA - Fondly known to other members as PNG are very
excited at the idea of visiting Kenya. They are twice semi-
finalists.

mittee was pleased to find an employee of ABN.AMRO Bank Mr. Lim
Cheng Huat recently transferred from Singapore to Kenya who will
ensure Singapore's first visit is enjoyable on and off the field.

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - UAE are the dark horse of the tournament.
They are known to have several Pakistani and Indian players and
we are sure they will be a thorn in the side of many a team.

WEST AFRICA - Comprising of Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia and Sierra Le-
one, they travel across the continent to Kenya and arrive on 2nd
February. West Africa did not participate in the last two tour-
nament and it will now be interesting to see how their cricket
has developed.

USA - The last team to arrive on the 10th of February because
they are making a tour in India as their preparation for the
tournament.
