Young all rounder looks set to leave the Cidermen
Richard Walsh - 27 September 2002

Somerset's Pete Trego is looking increasingly likely to leave the Cidermen to join Kent for 2003 after being unable to gain a regular spot in the first team at Taunton.

The twenty two year old all rounder who hails from Weston super Mare made his first team debut in 2000 during which he played in seven first class matches , scored 134 runs and took 18 wickets.

In 2001 he made just three first class appearances scoring 117 runs and taking 4 wickets, whilst this season he has played in three championship matches scoring 118 runs including 47 in the final match against Lancashire and taking 5 wickets.

Pete Trego also played in the tied match against the West Indies A during which he made an impressive 140.

During the summer he has played regularly for Callington Cricket Club in the Cornish League where he has enjoyed considerable success.

Whilst his form has been erratic there will be many fans at the County Ground who will be sorry to see him pack his bags and leave for the south east, where he will be hoping to step into the shoes of Matthew Fleming.

Although he is still under contract to Somerset it is unlikely that the club would stand in the way of any move that is likely to give the player regular first team cricket.
