Sussex sign new seam bowler Sussex CCC Media Release - 24 September 2002
Sussex CCC have today signed Shaun Rashid (no relation) a 25-year-old seam bowler who has previously played minor county cricket with Bedfordshire and is originally from Lancashire. Shaun joins Sussex on a one-year contract. Peter Moores, Sussex coach, is fully aware of the reaction to Shaun's surname: "It was unexpected to have another Rashid play for Sussex since the Club's tragic loss of Umer in April this year. We have spoken to the Rashid family regarding the signing and they acknowledged that although it would be difficult for them to see that name in the Sussex squad they understood the Club must sign those that will bring the team added strength and depth. "Shaun joins us after a couple of trials with the 2nd XI this season. He is a naturally talented bowler who has the potential to bowl genuinely quick. His development over the coming 12 months will be an exciting prospect." Shaun is delighted to be joining Sussex: "It's always been my dream to be a professional cricketer and play for a First Class county; to be joining Sussex, a First Division county really is an ambition achieved. I'm really prepared to work hard for the Club."
