Rayudu to lead under-17s to Sri Lanka Staff Reporter - 21 September 2002
After his scintillating 177 in the final one-dayer of the three-match under-19 India-England series, Ambati Rayudu has been rewarded with the captaincy of the Indian under-17 team for their tour to Sri Lanka. Rayudu, a Hyderabad bat, will be accompanied in the think-tank by coach Erapalli Prasanna. Suresh Raina, left-hand bat and off-break bowler, will vice-captain the side to Sri Lanka. Raina has not played any first-class matches, his highest level of experience coming at the Uttar Pradesh under-16 level. Rayudu, despite his international experience, is only one first-class match richer than Raina.
