Pybus to meet PCB chief today 21 September 2002
South African Richard Pybus is all set to take over the charge of the Pakistan cricket team as coach for the fourth time. He is expected to meet chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Lt Gen Tauqir Zia in Lahore Saturday. The PCB has maintained a cautious approach towards the meeting saying all depended how things moved during the discussions. He was expected to reach Lahore late Friday. Indications are that the English-born former cricketer, who is in his 40s, will watch the second `Test' between Pakistan `A' and Sri Lanka `A' starting next week in Multan before submitting his recommendations on some players to the selectors to replace the indisposed boys. Wasim Akram, Saeed Anwar, Yousuf Youhana and Inzamam-ul-Haq are certain to miss the Tests against Australia and some others are also doubtful starters. Pybus is expected to board the same flight to Colombo on which the replacement players for the first Test will go. The first Test begins Oct 3. Pybus has had three stints with the Pakistan cricket team since 1998. His sudden departure after last year's terrorist attacks on the United States has forced the pundits of the game to question his sincerity and commitment to the Pakistan team. © Dawn
