Mark Ilott to leave Essex
Media Release - 5 September 2002
Essex County Cricket Club has announced that it will not be renewing the
contract of Mark Ilott.
Ilott, 32, made his first class debut for Essex in 1988 and played in 5 Test
matches for England. He has been experiencing difficulties with his fitness
and, although fully recovered, has agreed with the club that it is mutually
beneficial for him to leave at the end of the season.
Chief Executive David East commented: "Mark has been an excellent servant
for the Club, and is currently in his benefit year. It is always sad when
players leave us, but we all wish him every success for the future."
Mark Ilott commented: "I am obviously very disappointed to be leaving the
club after so many years, but would like to thank the Club and its members
for all their support during my career, and in particular during my benefit
year. I very much hope to carry on playing should a suitable opportunity
arise."
