African Cricket Association's Africa Cup gets under way
Unknown - 3 September 2002

The 10 teams, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, Botswana, Nigeria, Namibia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Zambia, playing in the African Cricket Association's Africa Cup in Lusaka have all arrived safely.

On Saturday 31st August, 2002 all the participating players and officials took part in the "Cricket Week March Pass" through the streets of the city of Lusaka. This march was the opening of the Cricket Week Programme, which Zambia is Celebrating from the 31st August, 2002 to the 7th September, 2002. The march was officially graced by the Deputy Minister of Health. The theme for the Cricket Week is:-

POVERTY EREDICATION AND AIDS AWARENESS (LETS BOWL AIDS OUT OF AFRICA).

Thereafter there was a pre-tournament briefing, which was attended by all the Team Managers, Captains and Umpires from all the Countries.

A welcome reception was also held on Saturday evening in honour of all the visiting players and officials. The Deputy Minister of Sports was the Guest of honour at the function. The Deputy Minister also officially opened the Tournament on behalf of the Africa Cricket Association (ACA).
