Two more bats hit centuries 2 September 2002
Two more batsmen rattled up centuries as the runs flowed on the final day of the Courts/Suzuki Division 1 competition, yesterday. Stansfeld Scott Police wicket-keeper Stephen Herbert and William Lashley of Caribbean Lumber YMPC batted well but neither could push their sides to first innings points. There were three other centuries on Saturday to bring the tally for the sixth round to five and 23 for the season.
ICB Empire (260) beat BNB St Catherine (120 and 71) by an innings and 69 runs At Bank Hall: Empire moved to top of the standings with an easywin over strugglingSt Catherine. Empire's win was set up by pacer Ryan Nurse, who took five wickets in St Catherine's first innings and three in the second to finish with a match analysis of eight for 69. Resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 55 for two, St Catherine quickly capitulated as their batsmen had no answer to Nurse's speed and accuracy. Nurse ended with five for 33 from 9.1 overs, while Shawn Graham chipped in with two for 12. Empire enforced the follow-on and St Catherine fared even worse in the second innings, despite a brave and fighting knock from Patrick Browne (45). Nurse finished with three for 36 from 11 overs, and Robin Parris three for seven from 4.5 overs.
BCL (275-9 dec.)and Caribbean Lumber (274-9) – No-decision AT BLENHEIM: Lashley's 116 not out with eight fours and a six off 210 balls was just a run short of taking the visitors to first innings points in a tight, tense finish. Together with Colin Weekes (30), Lashley added 93 for the seventh wicket to bring YMPC back from 179 for six to within sight of three points. Then three wickets fell in quick time, and both side took home just one point.
Cable & Wireless BET (315-7 dec.) drew with Stansfeld Scott Police (265) AT WEYMOUTH: Despite an aggressive maiden century from Herbert, Cable & Wireles BET still managed to obtain first innings lead in their drawn game at Weymouth yesterday Herbert lashed 100, with 11 fours and three sixes, in his knock in just 97 minutes off 104 balls. He added 139 for the first wicket with Rudolph Clarke (84), but after Herbert's dismissal, wickets fell steadily, and Police were bowled out for 265.
Banks (281-6 dec.) beat Cockspur Wanderers (138 & 141) by an innings and two runs AT THE BREWERY: Banks maintained their dominance, when they completed an easy victory. The defending champs started the day on 189 for three and declared with a hamdsome lead of 143. Richard Carter slammed 130, while Dale Brathwaite 26 and Winston Reid 29 helped Wanderers were bundled out before tea with captain Reid snaring six for 42 for ten wickets for 62 in the match Other matches: CHIC Combined Schools (221 and 119) drew with Big "B" Spartan 104.
