Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took another U-turn and bowed to senior players demand for retaining slab system for Zimbabwe-bound players Monday.

PCB chairman, Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, in Lahore had announced after inaugurating the Bob Woolmer Special Coaching Courselast Monday, that the slab system had been abolished and now the players would be awarded on their performance instead of their seniority.

When contacted a PCB spokesman clarified that the slab system was still applicable, however, a performance based emoluments clause had been included in the original players contract.

Skipper Waqar Younis and Test discard Ijaz Ahmed had rejected the abolishment of the slab system.

According to the slab system, a senior player gets more match fee than a junior.

The new 7.2 clause reads:

Performance Based Emoluments.

a) For every one-day or Test match which is won by the Pakistan team, a player will be paid additional 20% of the overall match fee including slab fee, tour and additional fee. This will be in lieu of the victory in the particular match by the team.

b) From the overall match fee including slab fee, tour and additional fee, there will be a deduction of 20 per cent for every one-day or Test match which is lost by the Pakistan team.

The PCB has also decided to penalise players upto $1000 if reported unfit or not upto the fitness standards required for the international cricket. The team physio/trainer and doctor shall determine the amount of fine.

The cash incentive clause for individual performance remains unaltered. For example, if a batsman scores a century in a lost match, he will get Rs 100,000 as cash incentives but will also be docked 20% of the overall match fee including slab fee, tour and additional fee.

Following is the break-up of individual performance incentive:

For every 100 scored: Rs 100,000.

For a haul of five wickets in an innings: Rs 100,000.

For four dismissals in an innings by a wicketkeeper: Rs 100,000.

Four catches or run-out by a fielder: Rs 100,000.

For 200 or above in an innings: Rs 250,000.

For six or more wickets in an innings: Rs 200,000.

Meanwhile, former Test captains Javed Miandad and Hanif Mohammad gave invaluable tips to some of the members of the Zimbabwe-bound Pakistan squad Monday.

PCB had requested Miandad and Hanif to impart training to players, especially the juniors, at Lahore and Karachi, respectively till the team's departure for Harare via Johannesburg on Friday. Both former Pakistan greats are doing the job voluntarily.

Skipper Waqar Younis, vice-captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, Yousuf Youhana, Taufiq Umar, Misbah-ul-Haq and uncapped wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal attended the session here.

Hanif, known as Little Master, also conducted a 60-minute session with Karachi-based players in Pakistan squad at National Stadium.

Wicket-keeper Rashid Latif, batsmen Hasan Raza and Faisal Iqbal and fast bowler Mohammad Sami were present Monday while all-rounder Shahid Afridi is expected to join the group Tuesday.
