Flower enjoyed probably his greatest match in the First Test against South Africa at Harare Sports Club, where he scored two centuries in a match for the first time and became only the second player in Test history to score more than half his team's total runs in a match. He almost made it a double-century in the second innings but, after a lucky escape himself on 198, he was left stranded on 199 by a dubious lbw decision against Zimbabwe's last batsman.
