Rogers leads WA charge AAP - 25 October 2002
PERTH, Oct 25 AAP - West Australian opener Chris Rogers was leading the charge against England after the first session of the final day of a two-day cricket tour match at the WACA. In reply to England's first innings of 221, the home side was 1-115 at lunch with Rogers unbteaten on 57 and Murray Goodwin five not out. Rogers and captain Michael Hussey (48) were rarely troubled in their 103-run opening partnership before England wicketkeeper Alec Stewart took a fine diving catch to his left off Matthew Hoggard's bowling. For the most part the England quicks bowled too short and Rogers and Hussey feasted on any wayward deliveries in their two-hour stand. Searching for answers during the session, Hussain introduced spinner Ashley Giles with the score at 0-73. But the opening pair did not crack until Hoggard finally got his line and length right to force a edge from Hussey. © 2002 AAP
