The MILO Have-A-Go Day run at Hagley Park today by the Canterbury Cricket Association was a real success.
Upwards of 50 enthusiastic children attended the session, which acted as an introduction to the MILO Have-A-Go programme, which is to be offered by many clubs and schools in Canterbury this summer.
Children were given basic coaching in the main skills of cricket, which included batting, bowling and fielding drills and then played a modified game, where they had the chance to put their skills into practice. At the end of the session all the children were give a MILO prize pack, which included samples, a poster, player cards and certificate.
The MILO Have-A-Go programme is aimed at first time cricketers between the ages of five and eight. It is a programme where children are introduced to the basic skills of cricket and learn them in a series of progressive sessions which get more advanced as the season goes on.
