White enjoys his five wickets, especially against Australia
CricInfo - 30 November 2002

There was no doubt that the Australians dominated day two of the third Test at the WACA in Perth, but one note of encouragement for England was struck by Craig White. The Yorkshireman, who was brought up in Australia, took five wickets in a Test innings for the third time in his career and, with his county colleague Chris Silverwood incapacitated with an ankle injury, he could not have chosen a better moment for such a return.

White was happy with the wickets, but realises that England are still up against it. "It's nice to get some wickets. Five-for against Australia is very pleasing," he said.

"It is quite a quick pitch, hence getting a few caught on the edge with hook and pull shots."

White sympathised with Silverwood, who is out of this match and possibly out of the series. "Unfortunately, `Silvers' did his ankle but you can't do anything about it and it is up to the guys to work that little bit harder.

"We have got some work to do and hopefully we can work hard tomorrow and get in there."

Graham Dilley, England's bowling coach, paid tribute to White and the other England bowlers.

"We went into this game with one more bowler than we started with this morning so it's never going to be easy for anybody.

"If you look at what's happened, we managed to bowl Australia out, but they probably got too many runs and they're liable to do that because they are a good side.

"They guys stuck together which is something we spoke about before the day's play and the general response from the bowlers this morning has been exactly the same from all the team throughout the tour which is `Let's stick together'.

"I thought it was important to have a chat before the game today with being one bowler down and we made sure we all stuck together with what we were trying to do."
