M Suresh Kumar helps Kerala strike back at Kochi Staff Reporter - 14 November 2002
Left-arm spinner M Suresh Kumar took five wickets for 60 runs on the second day of Kerala's Plate group match against Goa at Kochi, bringing his side roaring back into the game. Kerala, dismissed for just 212 in their first innings, had Goa reeling at 195 for eight at the end of the second day's play. The only batsman to resist Suresh Kumar's wiles was one playing at number nine; Sandeep Dahad made an unbeaten 71 off 151 balls (5x4, 4x6) before stumps were called. Dahad was accompanied at the crease by AI Aware, unbeaten on two off a mammoth 54 balls. At Nagpur, another spinner dominated. Offie Madhusudan Acharya scalped four for 64 for Vidarbha against Saurashtra, the latter reaching 257 for nine at the end of the second day in response to Vidarbha's first-innings score of 300. JN Saha top-scored for Saurashtra with 76 off 153 balls (13x4). It was only at Delhi's Palam ground that the bat ruled the day. Yashpal Singh, unbeaten overnight on 77, went on to complete a speedy double-hundred. His 240 runs came off only 342 balls and included 26 fours and two huge sixes. It was also the backbone of a large Services first-innings total of 491 for eight declared. Tripura, in reply to the Services score, reached 65 for one by stumps. Skipper-opener Sourav Dasgupta was the batsman dismissed, and Ritesh Jaiswal (29*) and Rajib Dutta (13*) were at the crease when play ended. © CricInfo
