Provincial A Competition to go ahead New Zealand Cricket - 14 November 2002
New Zealand Cricket announced today that this season's Provincial A (national second XI) Competition, cancelled earlier this month as a result of the player payment dispute, has been reinstated. "The Provincial A Competition is a necessary part of our elite player development pathway and I am pleased that the competition will now proceed as originally planned," New Zealand Cricket chief executive Martin Snedden said. "It is a gesture of goodwill by New Zealand Cricket towards the players and demonstrates our intention to work with players to return to business as usual as quickly as possible." The first round of the Provincial A Competition is scheduled to take place between January 2 and January 14, 2003 with a series of games at New Zealand Cricket's Lincoln University facilities. The second round of the competition will take place at a variety of venues around New Zealand in February. The dates and venues have yet to be advised. "The Super Max match featuring the Max Blacks v India at Jade Stadium on December 4 will go ahead as planned," Mr Snedden said. "There has been some confusion among cricket fans about this match. The State Max competition to be played between our domestic first-class teams was cancelled as a result of the player payment dispute. The Max Blacks v India match will continue as scheduled," he said. © New Zealand Cricket
