Marcus feeling upbeat at the end of day two of the first Test
SOMERSET - 8 November 2002

Marcus Trescothick was in a buoyant mood at the end of the second day of the First Ashes Test match in Brisbane.

After the England bowlers captured the eight remaining Australian wickets for 128 the visitors had reached 158 for 1 by the close of play.

The Somerset opener contributed 63 to an unbeaten second wicket partnership of 109 with Mark Butcher, during which he looked untroubled.

At the end of the day Marcus told me: "We are very pleased with the way that the second day has gone for us, and the boys are feeling pretty upbeat."

He continued: "Tomorrow we will be looking to build upon our good start, and will knuckle down and look to getting a big score on a good batting pitch."

The left hander who is on his way towards a century which was one of his targets ahead of the match concluded: "The forecast tomorrow is that it is going to get hotter so it will be another tough day for us out there in front of what is expected to be a capacity crowd, but I am enjoying it."
