State Canterbury Magicians squad named
Canterbury Cricket Association - 5 November 2002
Jennifer Logan, convener of the State Canterbury Magicians selection panel, has announced a squad of 14 from which the State Canterbury Magicians team will be selected on 18 November 2002.
The squad includes two TelstraClear White Fern representatives, Haidee Tiffen and Nicola Payne, while England top order batsman Claire Taylor, Rowan Milburn (formerly from Otago), and Tamara Gould are new faces to the squad.
Gould, a promising young batsman, has already featured with the bat regularly this season in the women's first grade competition. Gould travels three hours from Lake Tekapo to play in the Christchurch club competition and has been a solid performer for Lancaster Park/Woolston.
The squad is dominated by players from the Lancaster Park/Woolston club, which has a convincing lead in the first grade women's competition at this stage.
"The squad contains a number of players who, while young in terms of age, have a wealth of experience at State League level. It will be a very difficult choice for us to remove one player from the squad as per New Zealand Cricket's requirements but the competition for places has been intense to date," Logan commented.
Former Canterbury and New Zealand representative, and current Canterbury Cricket coaching manager, Vicki Burtt will again coach the State Canterbury Magicians.
The first two matches in the State League for the State Canterbury Magicians will be played against Otago at Aorangi Oval, Timaru on December 14 and 15, 2002.
The State Canterbury Magicians squad of 14 (to be reduced to 13) is as follows:
Haidee Tiffen (captain, Lancaster Park-Woolston)
Nicola Payne (vice-captain, St Albans)
Sarah Burke (St Albans)
Selena Charteris (Lancaster Park-Woolston)
Kirsty Craig (St Albans)
Helen Daly (East Christchurch Shirley)
Maria Fahey (Lancaster Park-Woolston)
Tamara Gould (Lancaster Park-Woolston)
Beth McNeill (St Albans)
Rowan Milburn (St Albans)
Rebecca Steele (Lancaster Park-Woolston)
Hannah Rae (St Albans)
Jo Strachan (Lancaster Park-Woolston)
Claire Taylor (Lancaster Park-Woolston)
