The Federation of International Cricketers Association (FICA) joint chief executive Tim May expressed severe concern at reports that New Zealand Cricket (NZC) have tabled a settlement offer with the New Zealand Cricket Players' Association (NZCPA), which includes a requirement for players to sign the ICC Player Terms agreements for 2003 World Cup and subsequent World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy events for the next four years.

"The source of FICA's concerns was that such Player Terms have not been finalised and are currently being reviewed by ICC," said May.

"The ICC have instigated a process of review of the Players Terms, after widespread criticism of the Players Terms from both Governing Bodies and players."

"This process is still ongoing and therefore the player terms under review."

"No person should be compelled to comply with terms and conditions that are unknown."

May added that "FICA and ICC are currently in discussions regarding the construction of acceptable Player Terms, and any compulsion on players signing the Player Terms should be put aside until satisfactory resolution of this matter."
