Silverwood the star as England make it to final
Staff Reporter - 3 November 2002

Tight bowling from Chris Silverwood helped England upset South Africa and book their berth in the Cup final at the Kowloon Cricket Club on Sunday.

Silverwood, who had claimed three wickets for just two runs in England's victory over Hong Kong, conceded just four runs in the vital fourth over. The Yorkshire and England quick's efforts ensured that the South African juggernaut was brought to a screeching halt.

Lance Klusener's men suffered the six-run defeat despite England only posting 65-4 in their five overs. That total was built around Paul Collingwood's unbeaten 31 off just ten balls. Adam Hollioake was the other major contributor with 16 off nine balls.

South Africa lost two quick wickets when they replied - opener Justin Kemp and Lance Klusener falling with just nine on the board. But, then, all-rounder Johannes van der Wath and Alfonso Thomas (15* off 9 balls) mounted a fightback. But after van der Wath, 26 off 10 balls, fell to Paul Collingwood in the third over, the runs dried up for while as Silverwood stifled the South African batsmen.

After that, even a late flurry of runs in Hollioake's last over - 18 runs - failed to save South Africa from defeat.
