SPCL Div 3 - West Indian prepares for SPCL bow for Paultons Mike Vimpany - 10 May 2002
West Indian pace bowler Randy Davis makes his Paultons debut in the Premier Division 3 visit to newly promoted Hartley Wintney, who finished runners-up in the Hampshire League last season. Davis, 20, plays alongside West Indian starlet Ramnaresh Sarwan for Georgetown in Guyana. Strongly fancied St Cross Symondians expect new signing Steve Shaw, the prolific Hook & Newnham Basics left-hander, to make his debut at Gosport. The St Cross side is also expected to include former Sparsholt left-arm spinner Will Marriner. Former Burridge medium-pace bowler Paul Jenkins has re-joined the Privett Park set. Lee Beck (broken foot) and Steve Taylor (fractured wrist) miss New Milton's visit to Ventnor, who have lost a large chunk of last season's unbeaten Hampshire League championship-winning side. Promotion hopefuls Purbrook travel to Hook & Newnham Basics, who have snapped up Western Province Academy teenager Lloyd Moore. Keith Lovelock, last year's top Division 3 batsman, has assumed the captaincy at Basics. Barbadian Stan Rudder, edging ever closer to his 70th birthday, begins another season in Waterlooville's colours at Hursley Park, while Simon James takes charge of relegated Hambledon, who begin with a home match against newly promoted Redlynch & Hale at Ridge Meadow. Flamingo, fresh from their shock Cricketer National Village Championship victory over Easton & Martyr Worthy, entertain Portsmouth, then host Amport in the cup on Sunday. © SPCL / Daily Echo / Mike Vimpany
