No upsets in Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy
Stephen Lamb - 30 May 2002

All fourth-round berths in the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy are now settled, with no heroic acts of giant-killing this year. There were wins today for Hampshire, Durham, Surrey, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire.

Hampshire polished off an eight-wicket win over Kent County Board in their third round tie in the Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy. Hampshire had Kent in trouble at Folkestone yesterday, reducing them to 145 all out with Chris Tremlett taking three of the wickets. Today they finished the job in style, with Derek Kenway (76) and Neil Johnson (66) copmpleting victory with 23 overs to spare.

Durham went on to complete the hefty win over Wales Minor Counties that was set up by yesterday's opening partnership of 159 between Michael Gough and Gary Pratt. Gough made 132 and Pratt 89 as Durham reached 301 for five in their 50 overs. With Wales 65 for two off 25 overs overnight, further rain has meant victory for Durham by 49 runs under the Duckworth/Lewis method.

A century from Mark Ramprakash ensured victory for Surrey over Scotland in Edinburgh. Nadeem Shaid (65*) and Ian Ward (58) also helped propel Surrey to 246 for two off their 50 overs, and with a further rain intervention Scotland's 63 for four off 24.1 overs was nowhere near enough, giving Surrey victory by 55 runs.

Worcestershire overwhelmed Cornwall at Truro in a match that was reduced to 30 overs a side. David Leatherdale (40) and Graeme Hick (36) set up the visitors total of 125 for seven, but the Worcestershire attack was altogether too much for Cornwall, who collapsed to 76 all out, losing by 49 runs.

Meanwhile at Shrewsbury, Gloucestershire secured their fourth round place with a seven-wicket win over Shropshire. Mark Hardinges took four wickets as Shropshire were dismissed for 98, and a half century from Kim Barnett ensured Gloucestershire's victory.
