WACA makes offer to Damien Fleming
Western Australia Cricket Association - 28 May 2002

The WACA has today made an official approach to win the services of former Victorian swing bowler Damien Fleming to play for the Western Warriors.

The decision to approach Fleming was made earlier today following a meeting of the WACA's International & Interstate Committee (I & I). The I & I validated the process and conditions of the WACA s offer following recommendations from the WA State Selection Panel and State Coach Michael Veletta.

West Australian born, Fleming is a proven performer at Test level with 75 wickets from 20 Test Matches during a career that commenced with the second Test v Pakistan, at Rawalpindi in 1994/95. Fleming has also claimed an impressive 134 wickets from 88 One day Internationals.

Fleming's ability bowling into the wind will be well suited to conditions at the WACA Ground where he has an impressive record of success, including a player-of-the-match performance from the 2nd Ashes Test v England in 1998/99, for claiming 5-46 in the 1st innings and 4-45 in the 2nd.

As well as the WACA offer, Fleming is also currently considering an offer from the SACA to play for the Southern Redbacks.

Fleming became the target of WACA interest after the VCA announced that they would not be offering him a player contract for next season. Last season Fleming was an ACB contracted player but was not included on the recently announced list for next season.
