Steve James guided Glamorgan to their second Championship win of the season with a marvellous 121 as the Welsh county defeated Durham by five wickets.
After rain had delayed the start of the final day`s play by an hour, James adopted a positive outlook as he and David Hemp began Glamorgan`s pursuit of 201 to win the game.
The pair had added a brisk 56 when Hemp was dismissed in the opening over of the afternoon session, but a flurry of crisply timed strokes from James kept the Cardiff scoreboard ticking over, and the Glamorgan skipper duly reached a well deserved century from 138 balls with 15 fours.
It was the 44th century of James` first-class career, and his first Championship hundred for 11 months. "It was good to get some runs on the board", he said afterwards, "because I`ve not had the best of starts to the season. To score a hundred, and for Glamorgan to win was very nice."
"We are playing some good cricket at the moment, and in particular, Darren Thomas is bowling as well as at any stage of his career. He bowled a superb spell in Durham`s first innings. Mike Kasprowicz is in good form as well, whilst Simon Jones` extra pace is starting to frighten a few people!"
