Captain of the 1992 World Cup winning Pakistan team, Imran Khan, has urged upon the cricket authorities to name 14 or 15 players for the forthcoming World Cup without any delay and groom them for the onerous job of regaining the title in South Africa in 2003.

Imran was addressing the function organised by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) celebration committee to honour his team.

The great all-rounder said that Pakistan had the richest reservoir of talented players in the world but unfortunately the pattern of our domestic cricket was so weak that it failed to groom them properly.

He advised the cricketers that they should fight till the bitter end if they were serious to restore the lost glory.

During the ceremony the members of Imran led team of 1992 were awarded special awards. Among those who received the award were Salim Malik from the PCB chairman Lt.-Gen Tauqir Zia. All players, except Zahid Fazal were present in the function.

Amidst cheering by the guests, the former heads of the cricket board Lt.-Gen. K. M. Azhar, Khalid Mahmood and Justice Nasim Hasan Shah gave away awards to the Pakistani cricketers who have performed outstandingly in the One-day Internationals and Test matches in the history of Pakistan cricket.

A galaxy of present-day Test stars and cricketers of yesteryear along with their wives made the evening very colourful. A majority of the current cricket officials and those of the days gone by also graced the occasion.
