Adam Parore retires from all cricket

New Zealand Cricket today announces the retirement of contracted player, Adam Parore (Black Cap No 171), from all cricket.

Parore's 78th Test, against England at Eden Park starting tomorrow, will be his last.

His international career has spanned close to 12 years since he made his Test debut at the age of 19 in July 1990. Since that time he has played a total of 77 Tests and holds the New Zealand record for most Test wicket-keeping dismissals, currently at 196. This is just four dismissals away from becoming the eighth keeper in the history of the game to reach the 200 dismissal mark.

He made his One-Day International debut in 1992 and has played in 179 one-dayers including two World Cups in 1996 and 1999. He holds the New Zealand wicket-keeping record for most One-Day International dismissals with 136, made up of 111 catches and 25 stumpings.

Parore's greatest asset to the CLEAR Black Caps has been his duel contribution to the side as the specialist gloveman and as a batsman in his own right. He has batted in the top and middle order although in recent years has most often appeared as No 7 or 8. He has two Test centuries, scored against the West Indies and Australia, and is widely acknowledged as one of New Zealand's most technically correct stroke-makers.

Parore's Test batting average is currently 26.01 and his One-Day International average is 25.68 runs.

Parore debuted for Auckland in February 1989 having turned 18 years only a couple of weeks earlier. Despite his 13-year career with Auckland his international duties have meant he has appeared in just 30 first-class matches for his provincial side. In these he has made 1675 runs at an average of 46.52 including four centuries and 10 fifties. He has taken 66 catches and effected six stumpings.

He has played 46 Shell Cup games for Auckland over a 10-year period, and two State Shield matches this season. Overall in the one-day provincial competition he has made 1161 runs and has effected 40 dismissals.

From a young age Parore was recognised for his athleticism on the cricket field. He played in the St Kentigern's First XI for five years and played his club cricket for Cornwall and Parnell.

Parore has indicated to New Zealand Cricket that he will not be seeking a renewal of his contract following the current National Bank Series against England. He will be retiring from cricket at all levels immediately following the Test match.
