MATTERS ARISING AND DECISIONS TAKEN BY UCB GENERAL COUNCIL IN JOHANNESBURG ON 21 AND 23 MARCH 2002

1. UCB RESTRUCTURING

The General Council has approved the Price Waterhouse Coopers recommendation to restructure the UCB and all its affiliates into separate amateur and professional arms. Other proposals regarding possible changes in the structure of domestic cricket are being considered. If there is to be a change to the structure of the domestic game, this will occur only for the 2003/4 season.

2. DARYLL CULLINAN

The General Council reiterated the position of the CEO, Gerald Majola, that the issue of Daryll Cullinan's departure from the team selected to play against Australia in the second Castle Lager/MTN Test match at Newlands, is closed. The Council decided not to take the matter further as the UCB has no contract with Mr Cullinan.

3. COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGY

Independent Communications consultants Spin Media have been appointed to work in conjunction with Communications Director Bronwyn Wilkinson to develop a strategy to improve communication between all stakeholders in South African cricket.

4. UCB INDABA

UCB CEO Gerald Majola recently signed a performance agreement with the Ministry of Sport and Recreation in terms of which the UCB reaffirmed its commitment to transforming cricket in South Africa. An Indaba will be held of all UCB stakeholders in July 2002 to discuss new transformation targets and to assess adherance to those targets which were set in the UCB Transformation Charter three years ago. The UCB has exceeded those targets in all fields except for umpires, coaches and groundsmen. The Indaba is expected to set new targets for another period as yet to be decided.

5. SELECTION PANEL

The decision to appoint the national selection panel until the 2003 Cricket World Cup was rescinded and a new national selection panel is to be elected at the UCB AGM in August. It is possible that the size of the panel may be reduced. Future policies for squad and team selection will be set at the UCB Indaba.

6. AFRICA CRICKET ASSOCIATION

The General Council congratulated UCB President Percy Sonn on his appointment as Vice President of the Africa Cricket Association.

7. CEAT CRICKET RATINGS TEAM OF THE YEAR

The General Council also congratulated the South African national team on winning the CEAT Cricket Ratings International Team of the Year Award (2001) for the second time. Denis Lindsay travelled to India last week to accept the trophy on the team's behalf.
