Andre Adams named in CLEAR Black Caps squad for third Test New Zealand Cricket - 26 March 2002
The 12-man CLEAR Black Caps squad for the third Test against England is:
Stephen Fleming (captain) Matt Horne and Chris Martin are the two players to be left out from the second Test side. "It became clear to us during the second Test there was a need to strengthen our middle to lower order batting and come up with some different bowling options," said chairman of selectors, Sir Richard Hadlee. "Being behind one nil in the series, we are in a position now where we need to take the initiative and make things happen. "Andre Adams is a dynamic player who can make an impact with both the bat and the ball. "His ability to swing the ball could be useful in Eden Park conditions, and we all know what a dangerous lower order batsman he is." According to Hadlee the role Chris Harris plays will be decided once the nature of the Eden Park wicket has been determined. "There's a fair chance the pitch in Auckland is going to be of the lower and slower variety as the game progresses, the kind on which Harris' bowling can be very effective. "Chris Harris also gives us another batting option in the upper middle order." With Horne not selected for the third Test, Lou Vincent will move back into the opening position and Stephen Fleming will move up to number three. Hadlee went on to say that Daryl Tuffey had made his point to the selectors by taking seven wickets for the State Northern Districts Knights against the State Canterbury Wizards. "Having been released from the CLEAR Black Caps squad during the second Test to play in that State Championship match, Daryl made his point by bowling quite superbly," he said. "We hope he can carry that good form into the third Test." © New Zealand Cricket
