Resignation of Mr. Roshan Mahanama
BCCSL - 20 March 2002
Mr. Roshan Mahanama, who served as Manager and Head Coach of the Sri Lanka `A' team, has tendered his resignation to the BCCSL.
Upon receiving Mr. Mahanama's letter of resignation, the BCCSL initiated extensive discussions with Mr. Mahanama in an attempt to resolve his problem. His main complaint was that he felt there was a conflict in the roles of Mr. Hemantha Devapriya and himself. It was explained to Mr. Mahanama that the situation would be resolved by the Cricket Committee representatives of the Interim Committee speaking to Mr. Devapriya, which was done a day after the Kenya tour was concluded, in the presence of the Director Cricket Operations. The BCCSL had also earlier spoken to Mr. Devapriya regarding this issue.
Mr. Devapriya has agreed to be responsible for the coaching of the BCCSL's Development Squad, with effect from 26th February 2002, and we cannot therefore understand the reasons for Mr. Mahanama's resignation.
However, as Mr. Mahanama is determined to go ahead with his resignation, the BCCSL has no option but to accept it. The BCCSL is disappointed that Mr. Mahanama has opted not to continue with his 3-year contract, which was given to him with a plan to further develop Sri Lanka cricket.
