Law included in Bulls' line-up
John Polack - 18 March 2002
Queensland selectors are likely to wait until Wednesday before making a decision on the availability of Stuart Law for the team's Pura Cup Final clash against Tasmania, starting at the 'Gabba on Friday.
The Bulls' captain was today named in a 12-man squad for the match. But his inclusion - at the expense of fellow middle order batsman Clinton Perren - was made on the proviso that he will pass fitness tests on an injured hand in two days' time.
"I'd say he will look to have a bat indoors on the bowling machine during (tomorrow's practice) session but Wednesday is where we will have a clearer picture on his availability," said coach Bennett King in a statement released through Queensland Cricket late this afternoon.
"I'd like to think we would finalise everything by then so that we could focus on our final preparations on Thursday."
Law has been nursing a broken finger after twice suffering painful blows to his right hand late in the season. He missed the state's Pura Cup meeting with South Australia in February and was also absent last week from the side that defeated Victoria by five wickets to assure the Bulls of their place in a domestic first-class final for the fifth time in six years.
The Bulls will be shooting for a third straight crown at first-class level when they begin their match-up with the Tigers.
The full Queensland squad is: Stuart Law (c), Brendan Nash, Daniel Payne, Martin Love, Lee Carseldine, Andrew Symonds, Wade Seccombe, Ashley Noffke, Michael Kasprowicz, Scott Brant, Joe Dawes, Matthew Anderson (12th man to be named).
