NCC, Colts, Tamil Union and SCC through to semi-finals

NCC, Colts CC, Tamil Union C & AC and SSC all qualified for the semi final stages of the domestic Premier League at the weekend.

Colts CC and NCC both drew they last games, registering first innings wins, whilst SSC and Tamil Union completed the final round of the Super League with outright wins.

Boosted by the return of their international stars, SSC powered to a five-wicket win against Colombo Cricket Club, with Mahela Jayawardene crashing a run-a-ball 150 and Thilan Samaraweera displaying his all-round credentials with an unbeaten hundred and six second innings wickets.

Tamil Union, missing off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan who has been suffering from the flu, secured a comfortable six-wicket win against Panadura SC despite a second innings hundred from Chamara Silva.

NCC narrowly snatched their first innings win as Bloomfield came within seven runs of overhauling their 265 run total. However, in the second innings, their batsmen dominated with Aravinda de Silva continuing his good form with 65.

Colts CC scored 254 in their first innings before their strong seam bowling attack cut inroads into the Galle CC batting, eventually sealing a comfortable points advantage.

The semi-finals, to be played over four days starting 21 March, will see Colts CC take on NCC at P.Saravanamuttu Stadium, whilst SSC and Tamil Union will play each other at NCC Grounds.

In the Plate League, Sebastianites C & AC and Chilaw Marians will battle out for the Plate title on 29 March.
