Former Coronation Street star to speak at Rob's Benefit Lunch
Richard Walsh - 14 March 2002

Former Coronation Street star Amanda Barrie, who for many years played Alma Barlow in Coronation Street, will be one of the guest speakers at Rob Turner's Benefit Launch lunch.

Tom King will be the main guest speaker at the lunch that will be held in the Colin Atkinson Pavilion at the County Ground on Friday March 22nd.

Tickets for the lunch are going very well but are still available from Doreen Barnes on 01455 230489, for a suggested donation of £22.50.

Rob Turner has recently returned from New Zealand where he was hosting a tour party in aid of his benefit.

"It was a lot of travelling but the tour was a great success and went really well," he told me. "Keith Parsons, who joined me on the trip, and I met up with Andy and Marcus on several occasions, one of which was the night before the match in Wellington during which Marcus kept wicket.

"During the evening Marcus leant across to me and said, I don't quite know how to tell you this but tomorrow I'm keeping wicket for England! It felt strange watching him keeping from the stand but he made a good job of it."

Rob Turner has also arranged a Celebrity/Am Stableford Golf Competition for April 18th, at the attractive Teignmouth Golf Course in South Devon.

Teams of four comprising three amateurs and a celebrity or four amateurs are invited to enter a team. The price per team is £150 and details can be obtained from Charles Emery on 01626 865369.
