India ignores Pakistan's invitation 7 March 2002
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has ignored and failed to respond to Pakistan's invitation for its officials to witness the Asian Test Championship final and also attend an Asian Cricket Council (ACC) course starting here March 11. Highly placed sources in the ACC Wednesday confirmed that Lt Gen Tauqir Zia had invited the officials of the BCCI to watch the proceedings and also send their delegation to attend the four-day course that will cover marketing, management and technical aspects of the game. "It is very disappointing that Indian delegates are not coming," the official said while admitting that the Indians have not expressed their regrets. "It is easy understanding that they will not be travelling to Pakistan otherwise they would have contacted us to arrange travel formalities," the official added. Jaghmohan Dalmiya is the president of BCCI and is also the chief of the Asian Cricket Foundation (ACF). Ironically, the Asian Test Championship is the brainchild of Dalmiya who persuaded Pakistan officials in 1999 to scrap the third Test and consider the game as ATC opener. Pakistan won the match. The ACC official said Sri Lanka and Bangladesh cricket officials have accepted both the invitations. He said Sri Lanka will be represented by the board's interim committee chief while two top officials will represented Bangladesh board. In the four-day course, Pakistan and Bangladesh will have two representatives each while delegates from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan, Qatar, UAE, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong etc will have one official each. ICC development manager for Europe, Ian Stuart, assisted by David Dukes will conduct the course which will brief the attendees about modern concept of management, marketing and various technical aspects of the game. © Dawn Source: Dawn Editorial comments can be sent to Dawn at webmaster@dawn.com |
