Leicestershire v India match preview
Leicestershire CCC - 24 June 2002

Leicestershire will field a team containing a mix of youth and experience when they take on the Indian tourists in a one-day game at Grace Road on Wednesday.

Although skipper Vince Wells along with Devon Malcolm,Phil DeFreitas and wicket-keeper Neil Burns are being rested, the side still looks a well balanced one and strong in the batting department.

Rob Cunliffe, fit again after a broken finger, is being given his chance to impress and Charles Dagnall will also play if he comes through a Second X1 game on Tuesday.

Youngsters Ashley Wright and wicket-keeper Stephen Adshead have been named in the 12-man squad and the side will be captained by Iain Sutcliffe. It is also expected that Zimbabwe all-rounder Grant Flower will play his final game in his short spell as Leicestershire's overseas player. Australian Michael Bevan returns next week.

Coach Phil Whitticase said: "We have had a disappointing two weeks and this game gives us the chance to put that behind us, regroup and start again in readiness for the second half of the season.

"There are still two trophies to play for and we need to get back to the way we were performing in the early weeks of the season.

"It is a big game for India ahead of their participation in the triangular one-day tournament against England and Sri Lanka. They will certainly field a strong side which is likely to include Sachin Tendulkar. So hopefully there will be a big crowd for what promises to be a cracking match."

The game starts at 10.45am and is 50 overs a side. Admission is £12 for adults and £6 for juveniles. There will be no charge for season ticket holders as the game is part of their season ticket package.

Providing there are no late injury problems Leicestershire's team will be selected from: Sutcliffe (captain),Ward, Stevens, Maddy, Flower, Wright, Adshead ( wicket-keeper), Cunliffe, Crowe, Dagnall, Grove, Whiley.
