Sabres cruise to victory over Leicester Foxes at Bath
Richard Walsh - 16 June 2002

Somerset Sabres got their NUL campaign back on track when they cruised to a comfortable victory over Leicester Foxes at Bath this afternoon, but they did not have it all their own way.

After dismissing the Foxes for 147, with Keith Parsons taking 3 for 29, the Sabres had slipped to 33 for 3 before acting skipper Mike Burns (54) and Parsons (59 ) shared an unbeaten fourth wicket partnership of 115 to see them home to a seven wicket victory, with twelve overs to spare.

At the end of the match Keith Parsons was awarded with the Man of the Match Award for his all round performance, and Ian Blackwell won the Champagne Moment Award for his breathtaking one handed catch to dismiss Neil Burns.

At the end of play a jubilant Kevin Shine told me: "This was a great day for us. It looked much the same as we have done to them in the games last season. We didn't have a great start when we bowled but we squeezed them later on and kept on taking wickets."

The coach continued: "We looked to be in a bit of danger at 33 for 3 but then we had a very professional and polished partnership from Keith Parsons and Mike Burns who saw us home easily. It was fantastic, and I'm very pleased for the boys. That will set us up well for our Cheltenham and Gloucester trophy match against Hampshire on Wednesday.
