SPCL 3 - First-win Wintney knock Hambledon off top Mike Vimpany (as published in Daily Echo) - 3 June 2002
Newly promoted Hartley Wintney celebrated their first Southern Electric Premier League win - and promptly knocked Hambledon off the top of the Division 3 table. Beaten in their previous three matches, Hartley Wintney whipped the Dons out for 136 (Simon James 52) and celebrated a five-wicket win, with Australian Jimmy Castrisos hitting 61. Hambledon's defeat left Purbrook and Alton boasting the only unbeaten records. South African Will Prozesky slammed 101 as Purbrook piled up 247-7 before Portsmouth II were dismissed for 143. Alton swept to a fourth straight win, with Richie Morgan (73) and three-wicket pair Julian Ballinger and John Halfacre nailing Waterlooville by 68 runs. Graham Barett and Ben Adams hit half-centuries as third-placed St Cross Symondians beat Bashley (Rydal) by five wickets. Flamingo's flew up to a highest-ever fifth spot after Adie Heath's second five-wicket haul of the season set up victory over Paultons, who have made a poor start. New Milton quelled Gosport Borough's late resistance to secure a narrow seven-run win, while Keith Lovelock (73) saw Hook & Newnham Basics to a first win, by 5 wickets at Ventnor. Martyn Isherwood hit an unbeaten 66 to guide Leckford past bottom-of-the-table Redlynch & Hale's meagre 88 all out. © SPCL / Daily Echo / Mike Vimpany
