SPCL 1 - Burridge plan crisis talks ahead of crunch clash

Relegation threatened Burridge have called a crisis meeting with their players ahead of tomorrow's all-day ECB Southern Electric Premier League match against Bashley (Rydal) at Botley Road, 11am.
Skipper Paul Ancell, coach Peter Haslop and team manager Barry Williams plan to talk to the Burridge players about "the way forward" after last week's demoralising nine-wicket defeat by BAT Sports.
Burridge were shot out for a meagre 75 before lunch and left 13 points adrift at the bottom of the table after their all-too-brief visit to Southern Gardens. Ancell described the BAT defeat as "a horror story" and "the most humiliating day of his playing career."
"Fortunately, we should have Paul Hawkins back tomorrow, which should help. But overall the players have got to perform with more pride and application during the past six weeks of the season.
"It is up to them to respond (to the BAT defeat) by improved performances and improved spirit on the pitch.
"Our target is now simple. We've got to beat Liphook on August 17 and probably win two other games in order to survive.
"Our survival battle begins in earnest tomorrow, when it will be up to the players to go out and prove themselves," Ancell said.
SEC Cup finalists Bashley play Lymington in the New Forest CA Presidents Cup final at the Sports Ground tonight, 6pm.
Burridge will be keeping a close interest on scores coming through from Liphook & Ripsley's key game with Calmore Sports at Ripsley Park.
The game features the second and third from bottom clubs, with Hampshire Ycs prospect Matt Metcalfe likely to be unavailable for Calmore.
Leaders BAT Sports, with a solid 25-point lead over Havant at the top, are without opening bowler Kirk Stewart against third-in-the-table Bournemouth at Chapel Gate.
Skipper Dave Banks is undecided about who to call up as Stewart's replacement. "It won't be a bowler.
"With Dan Goldstraw (32 wickets) hogging all the glory, neither Damian Shirazi nor Chris Thomason has done much bowling recently, so they will have a decent crack at Bournemouth," he revealed.
BAT Sports go in search of an amazing 16th successive all-day win - but also in search of revenge.
"Bournemouth beat us in a 50-over game earlier this season. We didn't perform that day, but will tomorrow," Banks forecast.
Portsmouth have been refused permission to sign a replacement overseas player after teenage all-rounder Warren Swan returned to South Africa earlier than anticipated.
Raj Maru's side face South Wilts, who are strengthened by the inclusion of Hampshire left-arm pace bowler Jimmy Tomlinson at St Helen's, Southsea.
"I'm really looking forward to playing for South Wilts again," Tomlinson said.
"I need to get a decent bowl under my belt and tomorrow will be the ideal time for me to do it."
Andover include the Hooper twins Alistair and Matthew against Havant at Havant Park.
But neither Jerry Hayward nor Ian Langdown are available for the penultimate round of all-day matches.
Hampshire Under-16 all-rounder Rob Palmer plays, but Steve Snell is on Test Match duty at Lord's and misses out.
Snell, who is on the MCC Groundstaff, has been released to play in Havant's ECB Club Championship quarter-final tie at Stanmore on Sunday.
"We owe Clive Radley, the MCC YP's coach, a big thank you," said Havant skipper Dominic Carson. "We'll now be at full strength at Stanmore, which is a huge bonus."
