UCBSA General Council members unapposed for AGM Bronwyn Wilkinson - 26 July 2002
The three current office-bearers on the General Council of the UCB are unopposed for election at the UCBSA Annual General Meeting on 3 August 2002. Nominations from the 11 affiliates of the UCB for positions on the General Council for the next year are:
President - Percy Sonn (unopposed) "The fact that the three office-bearers are unopposed is a strong indication of unity in cricket and a vote of confidence going into the World Cup year," said UCB CEO Gerald Majola today. "Our theme for the year is Operation Teamwork - One Team, One Plan, One Voice - and it is especially wonderful to see that we are all working together and speaking with one voice following our recent Consolidation Conference," he added. Nominations for three Black African Representatives:
Peter Bacela Elections for the three Black African representatives will take place at the AGM which is to be held at the Johannesburg International Airport Holiday Inn at 9am on Saturday 3 August 2002. * The AGM will be followed by a meeting of the General Council, at which two Independent Directors will be nominated to serve on the Board of Cricket SA (Pty) Ltd.
Nominations for those two Independent Directors: Paul Kenneth Harris (CEO of Firstrand Banking Group, incorporating First National Bank, RMB, WesBank, Origin and Ansbacher in London. Holds several Directorships.) Mervyn Eldred King SC (Former Supreme Court judge; Chairman of Brait SA; Chairman of the King Committee on Corporate Governance. Holds several Honourary positions and Directorships) Timothy Leonard Hefer (Managing Director of Johannesburg International Commodities (Pty) Ltd; Member of the Financial Services Board) Gert Johannes Gerwel (Holds several Directorships on Boards, including Old Mutual and Media24. Former Director-General in the Office of the President. Chairperson of the Policy Committee of the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup) Mahavishnu Padayachee (Director SA Reserve Bank, Professor and head of School of Development Studies at University of Natal, Durban) The two candidates will join the President, Vice-President Treasurer and CEO of the UCB and the four UCB representatives - Brandon Foot, Cassim Suliman, Arnold Bloch and Ray Mali - on the Board of Directors. © United Cricket Board of South Africa
